Over sixteen years ago I found a need for an active and committed voice in determining how our city’s schools would be run. I wanted to help tackle the challenges facing our schools – changing demographics, rapidly advancing information technology, accreditation issues and, of course, budgets.

I have been effective in filling that need. I have worked with a number of talented and committed people to help make our school system a well-run and effective means of providing Marlborough’s children with a quality education.

There are no short cuts to understanding. I have learned the importance of listening to everyone who wishes to be heard. One has to do the homework, read the documents, make the calls, talk to people and find the answers.

The city of Marlborough now has a need for my experience. These are challenging times for local government. Marlborough has avoided some of the more drastic effects of the recent recession, but still faces significant issues. We have a very diverse population with diverse needs. We have lost several important corporate partners as the economy has forced businesses to make decisions that impact our city. It may be increasingly difficult to provide services and maintain our infrastructure in times of relative austerity.

We will need people who are committed and hard working. Answers are not found in sound bites and slogans. People will expect more of their representatives than empty gestures and intransigence. Elected officials must work to balance the needs of our city with the resources we have at our disposal.

I want to help. I have the skills and commitment to find that balance. I will listen carefully. I will do my homework, read the documents, make the calls, talk to people and find the answers.
